In Photography Until Now John Szarkowski, former Director of the Department of Photography of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, examines the interaction between photographic technology and aesthetic philosophy, presenting photography as the logical continuation of four centuries of visual experimentation. Szarkowski views the still photograph in relation to the technologies of today--such as television, video, and film. The photographs, made by both famous and anonymous photographers, provide a fascinating accompaniment to Szarkowski's surprising and provocative text.
