Britain is in the middle of the largest expansion of healthcare buildings since the inception of the National Health Service Act in 1947. From 1980 to 1997, 89 major hospital projects were completed, costing some Đ3.7 billion. Another 68 schemes are already committed to be built between 1997 and 2006 and will cost a further Đ9.7 billion.
