The essays, originally presented at conferences in London and Florence, and collected here in revised form, investigate the phenomenom of art reprodiction, the scholarly use of photography and the institutionalization of photo archives. The main themes that link the contributions are the materiality of the photographic object and the archive as a site for scholarship in art, art history and other fields.
