The Abalos & Herreros fonds documents the professional practice of architects Iñaki Ábalos and Juan Herreros. It is composed primarily of plans, drawings, photographic materials and textual records which document the activities of Abalos & Herreros over the course of its existence from 1985 to 2008. The concentration of their work was produced in Madrid and its community, where the firm maintained their head office, but there were also a large number of works executed in others Spanish autonomous communities. The fonds contains approximately 22,336 drawings (approximately 11,250 printouts, 6,670 reprographic copies, 4,416 drawings), 21,341 photographic materials, 1353 and 0,05 l.m. of graphic materials, 101 collages, 79 CDs (CDs, CD-Rs, CD-ROMs, CD-RWs), 36 panels, 25 models, 20 floppy disks, 12 DVDs, 7 artefacts, 1 audiocassette, 1 videocassette, 1 hard drive, and 17.2 l.m. of textual records.

In 1984, the architects Iñaki Ábalos and Juan Herreros established their private practice, Abalos & Herreros, in Madrid Spain. Renata Sentkiewicz became a partner of the firm in 2001. In 2008, the dissolution of the partnership Abalos & Herreros has resulted in the emergence of two new firms Abalos+Sentkiewicz arquitectos and Herreros Arquitectos. The architects described their practice as a triple combination "[...] and simultaneous action field: based on a professional, academic and research profile". Throughout the existence of Abalos & Herreros, the firm has developed more than 160 projects in the fields of architecture and urban design. Significant projects executed by the firm include the Viviendas, locales y garajes en la M-30; Edificio administrativo por el Ministerio del Interior; Ayuntamiento y casa de la cultura de Cobeña; Casa y Studio Gordillo; Biblioteca Usera; Planta de reciclaje de residuos urbanos de Valdemingómez; Aula medioambiental y oficinas, Arico, Tenerife; Pabellón de gimnasia en el parque del Retiro; Barcelona Forum 2004; Plaza y torre Woermann, Las Palmas; Torres mixtas bioclimáticas en el Humedal de Salburúa, Vitoria, etc. Abalos & Herreros participated in numerous international exhibitions and expositions, and received multiple awards and honours.
The architect Iñaki Abalos Vasquez, commonly known as Iñaki Abalos, was born in 1956 in San Sebastian, Spain. He received his master's degree in Architecture in 1978 and his Ph.D. in Architecture in 1991 from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM). In 1984, Iñaki Ábalos and Juan Herreros founded their firm Abalos & Herreros, in Madrid, Spain. Two years before the official dissolution of Abalos & Herreros, I. Abalos founded the firm Abalos+Sentkiewicz with Renata Sentkiewicz, in 2006. Iñaki Abalos is chair and professor in residence at the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Design (GSD), at Harvard University since 2013, but has taught at the GSD as early as 2009. He was professor at Barcelona Institute of Architecture (BIArch), from 2010 and 2012 and a visiting professor at Cornell University from 2007 to 2008 and at the Princeton University School of Architecture, in New Jersey, between 2004 and 2007. He was chaired professor at ETSAM in 2002. In 1998, he also taught as a "Diploma Unit Master" at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and as an invited professor at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPF). Abalos was a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP) of Columbia University, New York, in 1995. Years earlier, he was a professor at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid from 1984 to 1988. With Juan Herreros, Abalos published "Natural artificial", in 1999; "Técnica y arquitectura en la ciudad contemporánea, 1950-1990", in 1992 and "Le Corbusier, rascacielos", in 1987. He has also published "La Buena Vida" in 2000, "Campos de Batalla" in 2005, "Atlas of the Picturesque" in 2005 (vol. I) and 2007 (vol. II); "Naturaleza y Artificio" in 2010 and "Alejandro de la Sota" in 2010. Over the years, he participated in several international seminars, courses, conferences and workshops. He was also an appointed juror in dozens of international competitions, awards, biennals and expert committees, among them the Scientific Committee of the Study Center of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) from 2005 to 2001 and curator of Sustainable? in 2007, also at the CCA. Abalos' work was recognised with several awards and was exhibited around the world.
The architect Juan Herreros Guerra, commonly known as Juan Herreros, was born in 1958 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain. In 1984, Juan Herreros and Iñaki Ábalos founded their firm Abalos & Herreros, in Madrid, Spain and the Liga Multimedia Internacional in 1999. Two years before the official dissolution of Abalos & Herreros, J. Herreros founded Herreros arquitectos in 2006. The firm Herreros arquitectos was "re-founded" in 2014 under the name of Estudios Herreros with the German architect Jens Richter as its first associated architect. Juan Herreros is a full professor at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP) of Columbia University, New York. He was a visiting professor at the Princeton University School of Architecture, New Jersey, between 2004 and 2007. He taught also as the Morgenstern Visiting Chair in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, in 2006, as a "Diploma Unit Master" at the Architectural Association School of Architecture between 1998 and 2000, in London and as an invited professor at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPF) from 1999 to 2000. Years earlier, he was a professor at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) from 1984 to 1988 at the same time as Iñaki Ábalos. Juan Herreros also worked for the ETSAM as an architect in 1985. Over the years, he participated in several international seminars, courses, conferences and workshops. He was also an appointed juror in dozens of international competitions, awards, biennals and expert committees. Among other titles, Herreros published with various authors, collaborators, and institutions "Dialogue architecture", in 2013; "Housing and domestic space in the XXI century", in 2008; "Isla ciudad and Cambio + energía + información : palacios de la diversión, Isla de San Miguel", in 2004; "Potteries Thinkbelt (PTb), 1964-66 : caducidad, educación y energía, in 2000; Natural artificial", in 1999; "Técnica y arquitectura en la ciudad contemporánea, 1950-1990", in 1992 and "Le Corbusier, rascacielos", in 1987. Herreros' work was recognised with several awards and was exhibited around the world.
