Résumé:
"In China, we like to sit around a big round table for dinner. We place our dishes on a big spinning disk in the center of the table so that we can all reach the food. Everyone, whether or not he or she has anything to say, and every discussion, whether it is important or not, has an equal place around the table. We hope to have such a dinner and to invite to our table(...)

Résumé:
"In China, we like to sit around a big round table for dinner. We place our dishes on a big spinning disk in the center of the table so that we can all reach the food. Everyone, whether or not he or she has anything to say, and every discussion, whether it is important or not, has an equal place around the table. We hope to have such a dinner and to invite to our table those who don't usually come together in real life to share their experiences, opinions, and observations. Their concerns are really also our concerns." Mad Dinner MAD is a Beijing-based studio that has won numerous international design competitions, including the Absolute Tower in Toronto. Divided thematically, the book looks at MADs designs to illustrate the freedoms and limitations of the worlds fastest growing urbanization. It explores idealism and free market realities, the role of the media and cultural icons, enacting change in Chinas political landscape, and projects for environmental protection. A journalistic approach with a series of interviews reconnects architecture to the daily cultural landscape: A taxi driver speaks on China's economy, a doctor describes his ideal architecture.

Résumé:
Now in a new edition with updated statistics, texts and other materials, ''Handbook of tyranny'' portrays the routine cruelties of the 21st century through a series of detailed nonfictional graphic illustrations. None of these cruelties represent extraordinary violence?they reflect day-to-day implementation of laws and regulations around the globe. Every page of the book questions our current world of walls and fences, police tactics and prison cells, crowd control and refugee camps. The dry and factual style of storytelling through technical drawings is the graphic equivalent of bureaucratic rigidity, just as the detailed illustrations mirror the repressive efforts of global authorities. The 21st century shows a general striving for an ever-more-regulated and protected society. ''Handbook of tyranny'' gives a profound insight into the relationship between political power, territoriality and systematic cruelties.

Résumé:
Architecture is a collaborative art, calling on the efforts of not only architects but also engineers, developers, plumbers, electricians and others. The production process must balance individual empowerment and general management to allow for meaningful dialogue between diverse professionals. This publication explores these interactions through ten interviews with professionals who contribute to architecture in various ways. Conducted by writer and editor Brendan McGetrick, and originally published as a series for the Chinese edition of Domus magazine, these conversations illustrate the many facets of architectural practice. Interview subjects include : Michael Rock (Founder of the graphic design firm 2x4), Lu Zhenggang (Founder of the digital rendering company Crystal CG), Barry Bergdoll (Curator of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art, New York), Mark Wigley (Dean of Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation) and Tan Xiaochun (Chief of Construction for China's National Stadium).
