Résumé:
Frederick J. Kiesler - architect, sculptor, painter, designer, set designer and art historian. Kiesler was tireless in his pursuit of a radical new concept of interior spaces: his dream was a polydimensional living space, an organic continuum in which colour, form and light, combined with magical and mythical themes, would create a unique cosmos. His so-called Endless House stayed with him all his life; although it was never realised it still fascinated and influenced other architects and artists more than many 'real' 20th century buildings. The publication "Endless Space" has been produced in cooperation with the Austrian Frederick and Lillian Kiesler Private Foundation.

The demand for design competence crosses almost all disciplinary boundaries, making the designers of today particularly ubiquitous in their influence. Pre-Specifics argues that the most promising strategies for the design disciplines of tomorrow can be forecast in the common codes of "virtual relations" shared by material, biological, technological, cognitive and media perspectives. The book features contributions, statements, and conversations with internationally renowned authors such as Greg Lynn, Christopher Peterka, Wolfgang Weingart, Marcel Alexander Niggli, Christian Labonte, Fiona Raby and Anthony Dunne, Christian Doelker, Philipp Sarasin, Raymond Guidot, Eric Zimmerman and Manfred Fassler among others. It is designed by Ludovic Balland, and published with the Institute for Research in Art and Design HGK FHNW in Basel.

Résumé:
Archaeology of the Digital delves into the genesis and establishment of digital tools for design conceptualization, visualization, and production at the end of the 1980s. How was the transition from analog practices to new digital tools managed, and the dialogue between them exploited? What was the cultural and technological landscape of that moment? These questions are at the foundation of this publication and its accompanying exhibition that unfold around four projects selected as seminal moments in the early development stages of digital architecture: Frank Gehry’s Lewis Residence (1989 –1995), Peter Eisenman’s Frankfurt Biozentrum (1987), Shoei Yoh’s design of the roof structure of Odawara Municipal Sports Complex and of Galaxy Toyama Gymnasium (1990 –1992) and Chuck Hoberman’s Expanding Sphere (1991) and Iris Dome (1994). Each project established a significant direction for architectural research by experimenting with the possibilities offered by novel digital tools. The dialogue between computer sciences, architecture and engineering is at the core of these experiments, which can be considered precursors of approaches still operative today.

Résumé:
"Animate Form" is a book and interactive CD-ROM of recent architectural projects designed by Form, the office of Greg Lynn. The projects documented here explore the potential of time-based animation techniques to inform architectural design. Historically, architecture has been considered static, fixed, and inert. Through the use of state-of-the-art animation and special-effects software, Lynn transforms space and form into highly plastic, flexible, and mutable entities. He uses topological geometries to bend, twist, deform, and differentiate structure, creating unprecedented departures from preconceived notions of architecture. In experimenting with these new methods and media, Lynn has charted an innovative direction in design. The book provides a theoretical context for the experimental projects through a collection of texts by Lynn, extensively illustrated in colour. The CD-ROM is an interactive HTML-based environment that fully documents the design processes used to generate the projects through animations, renderings, model photographs, animations, and texts. The viewer is able to navigate through space and select objects and animations to view at different scales.
