In "Poems and drawings", first published in 1958, Josef Albers attempted to penetrate the meaning of art and life by the simplest, most disciplined means. This project was extremely important to Albers, who used its format to create complementary forms in both word and line that appear deceptively simple until they begin to disclose the author’s insights into nature, art, and life. Conceived as a kind of artist’s book, the publication features 22 of Albers’s refined line drawings alongside the same number of his original poems—each appearing in both English and German. Printed initially in a limited edition and long out of print, this new edition of "Poems and drawings" replicates Albers’s original book design and includes four previously unpublished poems that reveal playful and tender details behind Albers’s personal relationships, along with a new introduction by Nicholas Fox Weber.

Résumé:
Unpublished photographs taken by Josef Albers during his travels to Mexico with Anni in the 1930s and 50s. Josef and Anni Albers began their travels to Mexico in 1935, drawn to a country very unlike the United States. They were not in search of the exotic but rather of the traces of ancient pre-Colombian civilisations (the Mayans and the Aztecs) and testimonies of the everyday lives of a population that was very poor yet full of vitality. Dressed in dark colours and donning a large black hat, Albers was a non-professional photographer with the gaze of an architect, as may be noted from the great sense of composition and the search for geometries which he digs out even from the millenary archaeological findings. These photographs have never previously been published in Italy, and contribute to depicting the figure of one of the greatest innovators of the art and culture of the twentieth century, who to this day still has a lot to teach us. The volume also features an introduction by Brenda Danilowitz, curator and head of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, as well as an essay by Luca Galofaro, architect (LSGMA) and curator (CAMPO, Rome).

Résumé:
One of the most influential books on colour ever published. Originally issued in 1963 as a limited-edition set of commentary and 150 silkscreened colour plates, the book introduced generations of students, artists, designers, and collectors to Albers' unique approach to complex principles. While the original publication has long been out of print, this beautiful new edition now brings Interaction back into classrooms, studios, and on to bookshelves. Lavishly produced as a two-volume slipcased set, this book replicates Albers' revolutionary exercises, explaining concepts such as colour relativity and vibrating and vanishing boundaries through the use of colour, shape, die-cut forms, and movable flaps that illustrate his astonishing demonstrations of the changing and relative nature of colour. Also included for the first time are new studies from the Albers archive, produced by the artist's students in the early 1960s.
