Located in Mexico City, Tatiana Bilbao Estudio is well known internationally for its use of traditional Mexican construction techniques, the highly sculptural effects of its buildings and its unusually collaborative approach toward each client. Founded by Tatiana Bilbao (born 1972) in 2004, its completed buildings include the Gratitude Open Chapel in La Ruta del Peregrino, Gabriel Orozco's house in Roca Blanca and the botanical garden in Culiacan. The texts by Patrick Charpenel, Simon Hartmann, Raymund Ryan and a conversation with Gonzalo Ortega address Bilbao's uniquely contemporary architectural language, which combines the efficient use of materials, optimal function and an original design with a discreet aesthetic that always conveys a responsiveness toward landscape.

Spanning four continents and six countries, this book introduces "new art landscapes" that fuse architecture, the reuse of found structures, environmentalism, and artistic experimentation. Through words and pictures, readers explore six institutions--Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle, USA; Raketenstation Hombroich, near Neuss, Germany; Benesse Art Site in Naoshima, Japan; Inhotim, near Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Jardin Botanico, Culiacan, Mexico; and Grand Traiano Art Complex, Grottaferrata, Italy--dedicated to the experience of culture and nature. Integrating vegetation and non-linear sequences of spaces, the sites offer multiple experiences enticing the visitor to circulate between and within buildings. The sites are depicted with architects' plans and sketches, historical photographs, and maquettes and sketches by key installation artists. The most complete monograph dedicated to the work of Michael Maltzan and his Los Angeles-based architecture practice, this book presents 16 of Maltzan’s most recent projects with full-color photographs, drawings, and plans. Maltzan is an architect who deals with the realities of urban landscape through the manipulation of ground, circulation, and perception. Among his best-known projects is MoMA QNS, Maltzan’s reworking of a former factory into a temporary accommodation for the Museum of Modern Art, which opened in Queens, New York, in June 2002. Projects currently in design or under construction include several innovative residences in California, the Fresno Metropolitan Museum, and Kidspace Children’s Museum, Pasadena, which was selected for the 2002 Venice Biennale International Exhibition of Architecture.
