Résumé:
Images of the Mediatheque have widely circulated in architectural media since 1995, when Toyo Ito's competition project revealed a new structural prototype (or archi-type) which expressed the will to incorporate the notions of mobility and fluidity into space and structure. Second in the series of "Verb monographs", this book presents the process of design and construction of this prototype throughout these years, leading to the building's use as of the beginning of 2001, and reflects on the project's ambition to integrate the real and the virtual worlds - or, in Ito's words, the primitive body of natural flow and the virtual body of electronic flow. Long after its completion, the Mediatheque is still under construction.

Résumé:
Mexican architect and painter Juan O'Gorman (1905–82) had a spectacular debut as an architect, designing his own house at the age of 24. On the strength of this building, Diego Rivera commissioned O'Gorman to design a pair of studio-houses for himself and Frida Kahlo on contiguous lots, connected by a bridge. But O'Gorman was somewhat forgotten in histories of modern architecture, until the restoration of Rivera's and Kahlo's house in the late 1990s led to a rediscovery of the architect's work and a reappraisal of his place in contemporary Mexican architecture. In 2013 O'Gorman's own first house, which he began designing in 1929 and completed in 1931, was restored. Uncompromisingly radical and rigorously functional, this design reveals O'Gorman as a Mexican pioneer of avant-garde architecture. Casa O'Gorman 1929 tells the story of this unique building.

Résumé:
The debut portfolio by Onishimaki+Hyakudayuki Architects, a young Japanese duo based in Tokyo, focuses on their concept of “telling architecture like a story”. At the forefront of a new generation of architects in Japan, their projects are known for narrative characteristics and are integrated into the environment. Although only a handful have been realised, their positive attitude towards architecture views reality in a rather candid fashion, accepting and inheriting the history of a place. Along with a foreword by Toyo Ito and critical texts by Taro Igarashi and Yoshikazu Nango, this beautifully presented book highlights significant works, such as the Double Helix House.

Cette réflexion trouve une application concrète dans l'action que mène Toyô Itô pour la reconstruction de la région du nord-est du Japon.

Résumé:
Authored by Toyo Ito, Kumiko Inui, Sou Fujimoto, Akihisa Hirata, Naoya Hatakeyama, and others, this book gives a comprehensive look at the process of catastrophe and response which followed the Great East Japan Earthquake, as presented in the Japan Pavilion Exhibition at the 13th Biennale of Architecture in Venice. By posing this question, an assertion that architecture can only recover its essential character under such conditions is made, enabling a re-examination of its essential meaning. Through texts, photographs, sketches and models, the book is a both a timeline of events and a reaffirmation of the energy, creativity and dedication of its participants.
