Based on his experiences teaching, researching and practicing in India, Henrik Valeur discusses some of the problems related to the urban transition of India, including air pollution, contamination and depletion of fresh water resources, its precarious food situation, the lack of proper housing, and various environmental and human health problems related to motorized transportation. Catalogue of the exhibition ''Sixteen Chinese Museums. Fifteen Chinese Architects''.The exhibition reflects on the role museums play as motors of progress within the socio-political and cultural landscape in China today. It simultaneously presents and enquires into this role, and the associated tasks and aims of museums and cultural spaces, against the backdrop of the global, digital, urban and demographic challenges of the 21st Century, as well as the more locally-specific concerns of heritage and identity. Taking each of sixteen museums as case studies, the exhibition focuses on a set of crucial questions. How is local and national identity defined by the museum design and curation? How does the museum function within the context of its local social and urban environment? Which form or shape was identified as being most suitable for the museum’s function and its context?

As in the eponymous exhibition at Mori Art Museum, this volume examines the characteristics of ancient and classical Japanese architecture in a very ambitious attempt to elucidate the major currents of the nation’s architecture from the perspectives of how its genealogies have spread internationally, the pioneering figures in the process, and the mechanisms behind the continued expansion of these genealogies today. It documents 100 projects across nine thematic sections, including materials, models, documents, and interactive installations. Nine stories which are ultimately hypothetical ones, in hopes that they will lead to new discussions and visions for the future of Japan.

Résumé:
By 2020, some 400 Chinese new towns will have been built, representing an unprecedented urban growth. While some of these massive developments are still empty today, others have been rather successful. The substantial effort on the part of the Chinese government is to absorb up to 250 million people, chiefly migrants from the rural parts of the country. Unlike in Europe and North America, where new towns grew in accordance to the local industries, these new Chinese cities are mostly built to the point of near completion before introducing people. The interdisciplinary publication, written by architects, planners and geographers, explores the new urbanistic phenomenon of "Chinese new towns". Especially commissioned photographs and maps illustrate many examples of these new settlements.

"[re]TOKYO" explores a wide, understanding vision of the transformative processes of one of the most influential and unknown metropolitan areas in the world, from large scale efforts such as Tokyo’s land engineering transformations, to smaller examples such as its capital vending machine system. "[re]TOKYO" develops the idea of [re]definition processes to explain what, who, when, where, and why all these changes took place, concluding with a collection of the essential processes that comprehensively elaborate Tokyo’s changes – a tool to understand its history and speculate about its future as an exciting metropolis and cultural center of the world.

Résumé:
This book discusses the architectural influence that Japan and the West have had on each other during the last 150 years. While the recent histories of Western and Japanese architecture have been well recorded, they have rarely been interwoven. Based on extensive research, this book provides a synthetic overview that brings together the main themes of Japanese and Western architecture since 1850, showing that neither could exist in its present state without the other. It should be no surprise that the Bank of Japan in Tokyo is based upon the national banks in Brussels and London or that Le Corbusier’s cabanon at Cap Martin in the south of France is based upon an eight mat tatami room. In considering these histories, this book demonstrates the mutual interdependence of both architectural cultures while, at the same time, acknowledging their differences.
