Résumé:
Long known for her expertise in log construction, Robbin Obomsawin shakes things up in her newest book "The Not So Log Cabin", which looks at how to incorporate simple log elements into any home. A fresh take on a favourite architectural style, "The Not So Log Cabin" combines log building with conventional construction to create a new hybrid called log-element building. It is an easy way to get the "log look" while using fewer natural resources. Log-element building ensures a unique home, because it can reflect traditional styles like Adirondack, Southwestern, or Western, depending on the desire of the builder or owner. Complete with original blueprints for log-element building, "The Not So Log Cabin" is a great idea book for building a not-so-ordinary log home.

Résumé:
Powder room, comfort station, privy, loo, dunny … the infinite variety of names we invent for this universal necessity, the toilet, is matched by an extraordinary variety of designs worldwide, from miniature log cabins in the Canadian wilderness to state-of-the-art cubicles in Japan, and from huts on stilts in the Caribbean to solar-powered sanitary ware in New Zealand. This light-hearted but highly informative photographic journey reveals the idiosyncrasy and inventiveness that characterize the construction of the humble toilet around the globe. Along the way, the reader encounters every possible permutation, from the traditional English ‘thunderbox’ to the Swazi thatched ‘beehive’ hut, and discovers the cultural and historical differences that can make our travels to other countries so enjoyable.

Résumé:
Take a tour through twenty-five modern log homes reborn in the Arts & Crafts tradition, and witness how Craftsman style combines with the latest in log hybrid architecture to create a totally new and unique genre of building in "The Arts & Crafts Cabin". In this new title from log building expert Robbin Obomsawin, the rich Arts & Crafts heritage of the late 1800s that rebelled against mass-produced goods and the opulence of the Victorian era melds beautifully with the ideals of log home design and cabin living, where a simple life and appreciation for fine craftsmanship are held in the highest esteem. This new hybrid style incorporates the exquisite workmanship and sophistication that have become hallmarks of Arts & Crafts design with the warmth and comfort of log elements to create homes inspired by nature, creativity, and simple beauty. With one of the industry's premier photographers, Roger Wade, and the log industry's most prolific and respected author, Robbin Obomsawin, "The Arts & Crafts Cabin" uses spectacular colour photography, floor plans, and compelling historical text to showcase how the principles and philosophy of William Morris, Gustav Stickley, and Charles and Henry Greene combine with modern artistry to create some of the most exciting residential and recreational architecture being created today.

Résumé:
Long considered the apotheosis of rustic kitsch, the log house actually has a rich architectural pedigree. Since the late 19th century, a surprising number of architects, along with their artisan-builder counterparts, have transformed the simple pioneer log cabin into a supremely crafted work of high art. "Log houses of the world" is the first-ever chronological survey of the greatest examples of log houses designed in Europe and the United States from 1890 to the present. Included are photographs, plans, and little-known drawings - most never before published - from such celebrated Modern-era architects as Eliel Saarinen, Adolf Loos, Le Corbusier, Richard Neutra, and others. The result is both a tour of many homes, and an important vehicle for garnering for these houses the popular recognition, critical and otherwise, that they deserve.
