Projet
AP075.S1.1979.PR02
Description:
Project series documents Cornelia Hahn Oberlander's landscape project for Victoria General Hospital in Victoria. Oberlander worked in this project between 1979 and 1982. The architectural firm Beinhaker Irwin / Russell Vandiver Architects worked on the project, while Oberlander was in charge of the landscape for the whole hospital site. The intention for the landscape design was to preserve the site major natural features, such as the woodland and meadow, to create an outdoor recreational area for staff and patients and provide views and privacy for some of the hospital units. Oberlander's design included a play area and a treed parking lot to reduce the impact of the parking areas on the rest of the site. The project series contains concept design reports by architectural firm with Oberlander's annotations, design development drawings and working drawings, including grading plans, landscape plans and planting plans. The project is also documented through correspondence, research material, schematic design, specifications for the landscape and the building construction, contract and financial documents.

Description:
This project series documents the design and construction of the Gage Transitional Living Centre at Westpark Hospital in York, Ontario from 1983-1985. The office identified the project number as 8312. This project consisted of a modular building shaped like four octagons joined in the middle by two half-octagons. The building, located at 82 Buttonwood Avenue, was designed as a transitional living centre and permanent care facility for adults with physical disabilities. It was connected by tunnel to the main hospital, Westpark Hospital. The centre included 24 patient suites, approximately 400 square feet each, 12 of which were designed for permanent residents. Other areas included recreation rooms, dining areas and lounges. All patient rooms were on the ground level to aid accessibility. The project is recorded through drawings and textual records dating from 1983-1986. The drawings are all reprographic copies including mechanical, electrical and structural drawings as well as plans, sections, elevations and details. The textual records consist of correspondence, meeting minutes, specifications, construction reports and other documentation, change orders, and insurance and contract records. Box AP018.S1.1983.PR06.001 contains an index to the textual records, which was created by the office.

Projet
CI005.S1.1915.PR1
Description:
In 1911-1913, the Hostel for Lower Naval Personnel was designed by architect Piet Kramer, a building for which Oud claimed that he created competition designs. Researchers, however, do not support this claim as Oud's designs are dated 1915. Oud's plans feature a lounge and off-centre entrance and staircase, as well as a reading room for a convalescent hospital for soldiers. Oud's designs feature a geometrical composition based on a system of triangles. The designs were considered stylistically significant and displayed in the 1917 Sphinx "International Exhibition" (Taverne et al. 2001,107). The series includes photographs of the competition design floor plans and elevations.

AP018.S1.1964.PR07
Description:
This project series documents the Donwood Foundations Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in North York, Ontario from 1964-1966. The office identified the project number as 6418. This project consisted of a four level building, with brick and steel fascia exteriors, that served as an alcohol and addiction treatment hospital. Surrounded by wooded landscapes and overlooking the Don River and ravine, the L-shaped building was 42,000 square feet in size. The building's interiors were designed to exude warmth, friendship and inclusion through the use of warm wood finishes and colourful carpeting and upholstery. The hospital included 49 patient beds, an auditorium, a lounge with balcony, and therapy rooms. The project is recorded through a presentation board of an exterior photograph and reprographic copies of drawings dating from 1966. The drawings consist of construction plans, elevations, sections, details, layouts, and structural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
