Résumé:
The pioneers of ecological architecture today are necessarily researchers as much as architects, in any conventional sense of the term. Sustainability is the key criterion in this field, and ecologically sound solutions for the designs of homes are the key challenge (homes the most commonly built structure). Ecological Living assesses a selection of some recently built ecological habitats, collecting several built examples from a variety of French architects, examining precursors such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Alvar Aalto and Pierre Lajus, plus proposals for European architects and architecture students and inquiries into the ecological viability of detached housing and tower blocks.

Published in connection with the exhibition The Achromatic Island November 14, 2009 - January 24, 2010 in the Aarhus Art Building, Denmark, For several years, Sofie Thorsen has been occupied with the city: its architectural framework and its social, cultural, historical and political implications. Résumé:
Architectural photographer Juan Rodríguez brings his keen eye and perceptive sense of form, mass, and light to this extensive and beautifully shot series of photographs featuring the architecture of Manuel Aires Mateus. In documenting work by this famed Portuguese architect, which has a strongly sculptural nature, Rodríguez has opted for the stark contrasts and dramatic lighting effects of black-and-white film. The buildings with their geometric shapes are usually white, possessing characteristic clean lines and bold volumes that stand out dramatically in their respective contexts, whether a natural landscape or urban setting. This is a new paperback edition of the book published in 2019.

With Apple, Ken Miki playfully presents a complete basic course in visual communication -- all based on a simple and familiar object: the apple. First, all five senses are activated in a step-by-step analysis of the apple by touching, looking at, smelling, tasting and listening to the sound of eating it. The apple is then used to illustrate the topics of form, color, size, surface, texture, writing, line, body and text -- the fundamental elements a designer works with. Addressing each theme based on this everyday object enables a playful approach that also makes for highly effective learning.

Résumé:
Conceived by Atelier Hoko, this booklet approaches uncovering implicit conditions that exist in our experience of the everyday. The term “secondary” refers to material and immaterial conditions and sensations that humans are not conscious of in their interaction with things and the immediate surroundings. In so doing, the independent research lab hopes to draw upon a renewed sensibility towards living. This instalment analyses the act of drinking from a cup in exceeding detail, through photos, diagrams and texts. Atelier Hoko developed this programme in response to questions on how design today can move beyond its perceived perimeters.

Going back to the nineteenth century, Scriver and Srivastava look at the beginnings of modernism in colonial India and the ways that public works and patronage fostered new design practices that directly challenged the social order and values invested in the building traditions of the past. Making sense of a broad range of sources, from private papers and photographic collections to the extensive records of the Indian Public Works Department, they provide the most rounded account of modern architecture in India that has yet been available.
