Résumé:
This book presents works by a number of major Italian photographers who have explored aspects of their native land that are rarely depicted elsewhere. The photographs range from social documentary works of the 1950s to the conceptual photography of the 1970s, more personal explorations and travelogues of the 1980s and contemporary photographic remappings of Italian cities. Résumé:
Since 2014, CARTHA has provided a platform for critical thinking on architecture and society. Founded by an international team of architects and designers, it aims to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical approaches to contemporary architecture. Each year, CARTHA initiates research and the publication of four issues on a topic in its online magazine that are then brought together in an annual book. In 2015, CARTHA’s topic was relations within the architectural spectrum. Contributions explore models of collaboration and the ways in which architects relate to other architects, clients, workers, and users of space. Each of the four issues—Worth Sharing, Confrères, Mannschaft, and Santisima Trinidad—features an introductory interview with a renowned architect or firm, including Diogo Seixas Lopes, Grafton Architects, Samuel Schulze, and Marco Serra. Photography in the 2015 edition of CARTHA includes series by Guido Guidi, Rasmus Norlander, Joël Tettamanti, and Onnis Luque.

Résumé:
"Viaggio in Italia," conceived by Luigi Ghirri and published in 1984, is a milestone in contemporary Italian photography, representing the "manifesto" of the Italian School of Landscape from the 1980s onward. The project tells the story of a generation of photographers who moved away from exotic travel, sensational reportage, and formalist analysis to focus on the everyday Italian landscape. This shift replaced the cliché of Italy as a uniquely wonderful place with an "anti-heroic, anti-mythical, everyday and non-rhetorical" image, as noted by Gabriele Basilico. Twenty photographers, many of whom gained international recognition, participated: Olivo Barbieri, Gabriele Basilico, Gianantonio Battistella, Vincenzo Castella, Andrea Cavazzuti, Giovanni Chiaramonte, Mario Cresci, Vittore Fossati, Carlo Garzia, Guido Guidi, Luigi Ghirri, Shelley Hill, Mimmo Jodice, Gianni Leone, Claude Nori, Umberto Sartorello, Mario Tinelli, Ernesto Tuliozi, Fulvio Ventura, and Cuchi White. The volume includes an essay by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle and a paper by Gianni Celati.

Résumé:
The film "Il deserto rosso" (The Red Desert) by Michelangelo Antonioni, produced in the industrial region around Ravenna, Italy, in 1964, is considered one of the most important works in contemporary film history. Because of its innovative use of color, uncomfortably slow pacing, and existential environment, the film has long held appeal to filmmakers, artists, and photographers. As a response to the film, a joint endeavor between the students at the Academy of fine Arts, Leipzig, led by artists and professors Joachim Brohm and Anna voswinckel, with the photo initiatives Linea di Confine and Osservatorio fotografico, Italy, were asked to create an exhibition of living photographers influenced by the film. The catalog features more than thirty photographers, all associated in some way with the university and photo initiatives. The photographers were asked to provide their reaction to the film along with their associated images. The project was then exhibited at SK Stiftung Kultur (Cologne, September 2017January 2018). Among the featured artists are Joachim Brohm, Guido Guidi, Valentina Seidel, and Francesco Neri.
