Summary:
The visual report ‘Activism Doubt,’ is the vibrant result of a series of public works where Jonas Staal and Harmen de Hoop used each other as performers for their respective works according to a number of agreed rules. This process resulted in a powerful mapping of artistic possibilities that engage with public space/the public domain, while also examining such questions as – is it possible to combine both political and artistic objectives?, and; what is the influence of the artist on the structure and usage of the public domain? Intriguing and engaging, the book is illustrated throughout and accompanied by interviews with the two artists, letters and explanatory notes.

Summary:
Recent decades have seen photography’s privileged relationship to the real come under question. Spurred by the postmodern critique of photography in the 1980s and the rise of digital technologies soon thereafter, scholars have been asking who and what built this understanding of the medium in the first place. "Photography and doubt" reflects on this interest in photography’s referential power by discussing it in rigorously historical terms. How was the understanding of photographic realism cultivated in the first place? What do cases of staged and manipulated photography reveal about that realism’s hold on audiences across the medium’s history? Have doubts about photography’s testimonial power stimulated as much knowledge as its realism?

Summary:
The catalogue of In Praise of Doubt is the first in a series accompanying the exhibitions of the Francois Pinault Foundation at Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana. For this publication, each of the living artists represented in the exhibition was asked to give an interview, leaving to each the freedom to respond as they felt appropriate. The artists could choose the personality, art critic, curator, historian or journalist whom he or she wished to be interviewed by, and each was free to impose his or her rules: be laconic or eloquent, reproduce an interview, reformulate earlier comments, play the game of the Proust Questionnaire. In this way, In Praise of Doubt has made it possible to represent 14 unique interviews with internationally renowned artists. The volume includes 75 stunning colour photographs of objects displayed at the exhibition, including the work of Jeff Koons, Bruce Nauman and Maurizio Cattelan.

Summary:
Contemporary urban development is increasingly characterized by a reliance on diagrams to convey the rational statistical point of view of the professional urban planner. In his new book Urbanisms architect Steven Holl suggests that just as modern medicine has recognized the power of the irrational psyche urban planners need to realize that the experiential power of cities cannot be completely rationalized and must be studied subjectively. With a selection of urban and architectural projects from his thirty year practice Holl stretches urban planning into the domain of uncertainty. Analyzing a wide range of matters from everyday experiences to spatial data Urbanisms examines how perception and the senses are intertwined with the material space and light of urban form

Summary:
This collection of a number of key essays by the New York-based architect and writer Mark Rakatansky proposes an innovative framework for architecture to enact the complex tectonic dramas of social and culture space. Following its title, the book is arrayed in three sections: Tectonic, Acts of, Desire and Doubt. In each, Rakatansky covers a series of subjects in a writerly voice that varies from the third-person narrative of the scholarly essays to the transcript of an email exchange with fellow academic Sarah Whiting discussing recent books by architect Greg Lynn. Transformational performances of architectural identity are explored in discussions of fabrication, social parametrics, building envelopes, spatial narratives, animation, migrancy, and in illuminating readings into the works of Louis Kahn, Robin Evans, John Coltrane, Giulio Romano and Andrea Palladio.
