Description:
File documents research on air structures for a survey and final report commissioned by the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works, United Kingdom. The report was completed in 1969 by Cedric Price in collaboration with Frank Newby and Robert H. Suan of Felix J. Samuely and Partners, Consulting Engineers, and published in 1971 by HMSO (Her Majesty's Stationery Office). In addition to the report titled 'Air Structures: A Survey', the file contains material on Cedric Price's presentation at the 1967 International Colloquium on Pneumatic Structures at the University of Stuttgart. The creation of the Lightweight Enclosure Unit (see AP144.S2.D79) by Cedric Price and Frank Newby and their involvement with the drafting of British Standards Institution's 1976 'Draft for Development: Air Structures' (see AP144.S2.D79 and AP144.S2.D91) were also results of this initial commission. The file contains publication layouts, including drawings for Aerofoam Furniture (see AP144.S2.D43) and possibly the Tunisia Report on Tourism; design development drawings and charts, including a two-year projection for air structure research, a project integration chart of important "players" in the research, including government, academic, and industrial contacts, a chart showing cost per surface area; and five presentation panels that include a title page, diagrammatic sketches of projects dating from 1963-1965, a summary of Aerofoam furniture, drawings for Surface Oil Containment (1967) clippings, and a manuscript. Some materials in this file were published in "Cedric Price Supplement", 'Architectural Design', vol. 40, (October 1970), 508-510, and Price, Cedric, 'Cedric Price-Works II', 18, 31. Material in this file was produced between 1966 and 1995, but predominantly between 1966 and 1971. File contains design development drawings, presentation drawings, presentation panels, and textual records.

Description:
File documents an unsuccessful entry in an invited competition for a mid-rise office building for approximately 250 employees in Brühl, near Cologne, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building was intended to serve as the headquarters for the German lock company DOM Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. KG. Conceptual, schematic and design development sketches and drawings include isometrics and perspectives showing early ideas for the building's massing; schematic floor plans showing horizontal and vertical circulation paths throughout the building; diagrammatic plans indicating how people by car, foot, or bicycle would enter the building; diagrammatic sections showing the relationship between functional areas; and plan obliques of functional areas for square footage calculations. A panel composed of sketches with text and annotations describes Price's concept and the building program. Design development drawings also include floor plans showing circulation patterns, elevations showing the exterior stainless-steel cladding, isometrics showing the relationship between floor levels and functional areas, and perspectives which were possibly used to develop the overall massing of the building. A set of four panels numbered 2 through 5 depict floor plans, elevations, and sections from another project, Steel House (AP144.S2.D60). One presentation board is a collage composed of four coloured photographs of the working design models. Reprographic copies were made from the original design development drawings, and some of them are coloured with markers and annotated. Material in this file was produced in 1980. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, presentation panels, other panels, presentation models, photographic materials, and textual records.

Description:
File documents a competition proposal by Cedric Price, in collaboration with Archigram, Per Kartvedt, and Tony Dugdale for a combined university / community centre, in Trondheim, Norway. The programme called for a congress centre, hotel rooms, sauna, and swimming pool. The final design proposal is described in the file: "Due to economy achievable in warming and ventilation through large scale air movements it was found possible to enclose 3 conventional partitions within an enormous 'greenhouse'. Giant snow sweepers on the roof combined with heated central 'open' swimming pools are additional artificial environment manipulators'. Conceptual sketches explore the development of the site in section. Relationships between areas are shown in color: "delight" in blue; "servicing" in yellow; and "escape" in orange. Drawings also include diagrammatic plans and sections. Many original conceptual sketches by both Cedric Price and Archigram are included within the textual records. Material in this file was produced between 1967 and 1974, but predominantly between 1972 and 1974. Some drawings and notes in this file are attributed to Archigram, Per Kartvedt, and Tony Dugdale. File contains design development drawings, presentation drawings, photographic materials, models, and textual records.

CP Aviary
AP144.S2.D113
Description:
File documents an unexecuted project for an aviary and laboratory for the Royal Veterinary College, Camden, London, England. The design had to be easily dismantled, transported, and re-erected, since it was possible that there would be a "Stage 2" where the aviary would be moved from its original urban site to a more open rural site. Conceptual sketches illustrate preliminary ideas for the general structure and for. Some sketches are colored with metallic ink to outline structural components. Schematic design drawings illustrate two alternate plans, probably for urban and rural sites. A schematic flow diagram shows the use of research equipment within specified laboratory zones/research modules. Design development drawings show the aviary structure for both the urban and rural site. Isometrics, axonometrics, and perspectives show spatial division and accommodation within the aviary. Duplicate reprographic copies are made from the original drawings; some are annotated with notes. Material in this file was produced between 1978 and 1989, but predominantly between 1981 and 1985. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, reference drawings, other drawings, a model, photographic materials, and textual records.
