House, Selsdon
AP144.S2.D42
Description:
File documents an unexecuted project for a detached private residence located at Beech Way in Selsdon, Surrey, (now Croydon, part of Greater London), England, for Jean Newlove (Mrs. Jean McColl). The local planning authority refused the project citing aesthetic considerations. File contains conceptual and design development sketches that explore exterior elevations, stair and glazing details; axonometric drawings and sections that show relationship between floor levels and functions; and framing plans showing the preliminary structural layout. Material in this file was produced between 1962 and 1964. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, presentation drawings, photographic materials, and textual records.

AP144.S2.D22
Description:
File documents alterations to the showroom and offices of Thomas Green & Son Limited, at New Surrey Works, on Southwark Street, in London, England. The proposal reflects Prices’ objective "to provide maximum flexibility for the display of product", by the use of movable screens, stands, canopies, and a lighting system of adjustable spotlights. The project includes a new reception room and office, and renovations to existing offices. Future construction phases for this project include work on the entrance façade and door, and company signage. A preliminary sketch for an illuminated mural on a showroom wall is fabricated from wheels manufactured by the company. Material in this file was produced between 1958 and 1959. File contains design development drawings and textual records.

Greenbird
AP144.S2.D96
Description:
File documents Greenbird, an aviary for West Green House at Hartley Wintney, in Hampshire, England. Although construction did begin it is unclear whether the project was ever completed. The design for the aviary called for metal poles and a roof grid covered with a wire framework and nylon mesh. Conceptual sketches show various roof designs and a system for providing variable heights. The final design also included an artificial spring, stepped waterfall, rock pool, shallow pool, beach and marsh areas, and perches at various heights. Existing conditions material includes a colour aerial photograph mounted on press board and an existing survey plan. Design development drawings also include axonometric drawings of the structure and proposals for pools and waterfalls. Some material in this file was published in 'Cedric Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 90, 99. Material in this file was produced between1961 and 1979, but predominantly between 1975 and 1979. Several drawings in the file are attributed to McAlpine Design Group and Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons Ltd. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, consultant drawing, photographic material, and textual records.

DR1995:0307:001-006
Description:
This group of drawings entitled "Summary of current ideas" constitutes a graphic summary of Price's design concepts explored through an analysis of his own projects, although it is unclear which projects are represented. Simplified "iconic" thumbnail sketches of projects are shown loosely organized in chart format (DR1995:0307:003-006). Each thumbnail sketch is keyed to specific "factors" (DR1995:0307:002) such as site dimensions, ease of transportability, type of structure (ie. air structure, pre-fabricated structure), and state of structure (ie. existing or new structure). A doodle of Price, shown both in elevation and plan, is included (DR1995:0307:001).

Westpen
AP144.S2.D101
Description:
File documents an unexecuted project for Westpen, an animal enclosure for the property at West Green House at Hartley Wintney, in Hampshire, England, and also the location for the project Greenbird (AP144.S2.D96). The pen can be adapted for several uses and its pivoting and sliding gates can be removed when not used for livestock, to be converted into a sculptured landscape for picnicking and leisure activities. Conceptual drawings include diagrammatic sketches which show the movement of animals through the pen for collecting, weighing, cleaning, and shearing. Sketches show pivoting rails, and preliminary plans are annotated with individual gate dimensions. Design development and working drawings illustrate the development of the pen components: 8 ft swing slide and cattle gates; 3 ft sheep gates; a sheep dip and footbath area; a sheep drafting and guillotine gate; and feed bins. Plans and details show the concrete apron and pre-formed gate sockets. Reprographic copies made from a consultant's drawings show the configuration of gates and hurdles. Some material in this file was published in Price-Works II' (London: Architectural Press, 1984), 72, 79. Material in this file was produced between 1977 and 1979. File contains conceptual drawings, design development drawings, model, photographic materials and textual records.
