File documents the executed project for Phun City, a "temporary city" for an outdoor pop music festival at Ecclesden Commons in Sussex, England. Cedric Price was commissioned to coordinate the design and construction of the site, which was to include a stage, tower, cinema, theatre, administration and medical buildings, movable sleeping structures, public toilets, fencing, crash barriers and access roads. Drawings illustrate the development of the functional relationships among activities, as well as, access to, and circulation within, the concert site. A site plan shows the broader context of Ecclesden Commons; keyed diagrammatic plans locate main activity enclosures, pedestrian and vehicular access routes, proposed parking, emergency routes to and from the site, and wire and chain link barriers and fences. A diagrammatic site plan shows the final layout, including last minute alterations prior to the opening of the concert. A second site plan has been marked up with notes indicating how the spectators appropriated the site during the concert, moving some of the portable buildings and circulating in patterns that were different than those anticipated by Price. The building was intended to serve as the headquarters for the German lock company DOM Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. KG. Conceptual, schematic and design development sketches and drawings include isometrics and perspectives showing early ideas for the building's massing; schematic floor plans showing horizontal and vertical circulation paths throughout the building; diagrammatic plans indicating how people by car, foot, or bicycle would enter the building; diagrammatic sections showing the relationship between functional areas; and plan obliques of functional areas for square footage calculations. A panel composed of sketches with text and annotations describes Price's concept and the building program. Design development drawings also include floor plans showing circulation patterns, elevations showing the exterior stainless-steel cladding, isometrics showing the relationship between floor levels and functional areas, and perspectives which were possibly used to develop the overall massing of the building. A set of four panels numbered 2 through 5 depict floor plans, elevations, and sections from another project, Steel House (AP144.S2.D60). One presentation board is a collage composed of four coloured photographs of the working design models. Reprographic copies were made from the original design development drawings, and some of them are coloured with markers and annotated. Material in this file was produced in 1980. This project series documents the design and construction of the new National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario from 1983-1988. The office identified the project number as 8303. In 1977, Parkin Architects Planners won a limited architectural competition for their design of the new National Gallery of Canada. However, after cited lack of funds, and controversies over the chosen site as well as how the competition was run, the newly formed Canada Museums Construction Company sought another design and architect for the new National Gallery. The building site was also moved from its original location near the Canadian parliament buildings on Wellington Street to the corner of Sussex Drive and St Patrick Street. Eventually, Moshe Safdie, in joint venture with Parkin Architects Planners, were chosen as the architects for the project. Parkin was the minor partner in this joint venture and his firm's work seemed to focus more on construction than design. The dispute over this decision can be found in the textual records of project series AP018.S1.1976.PR23 in this fonds. This project was commissioned by Public Works Canada and the Canada Museum Construction Company, both federal government agencies. The project is recorded through drawings, photographs and textual records dating from 1976-1989. The drawings consist largely of structural and construction drawings for the project. Some drawings in this project series were prepared by Public Works Canada. The textual records for this project include specifications, financial records, change order documentation, correspondence, interoffice letters, documentation on the competition controversy and competition reports. The textual records also focus heavily on a dispute between Parkin/Safdie and the client regarding the architects' professional fees.

Series 2, Software for producing the projection and narration, 2007-2008, is composed of ten different versions of the module that generates the projection and narration in the open gallery. Seven of the versions were among the files saved to a compact disc following the CCA exhibition and have been kept together as group ARCH275207. Three of the versions were on a hard drive that was used in Rovereto and comprise group ARCH275212. The core elements of each module are two application files. One of these, whose name begins with "VE1" uses parameters contained in a file called "config.txt". The other application file, called "VECalibration" displays the entire volume of the projected architectural space. The geometric parameters for a room are recorded in a separate image file called "ecan-angles.jpg". A readme file in each module explains how the different files interact with one another. It also identifies the version of the "VE1" application files and any issues that may be related to the version. Each module includes hundreds of Shockwave Flash files (.swf), each containing an animated or still image of a person or persons and/or one or more pieces of furniture. Some of the .swf files contain an image of one or more furnished rooms inhabited by one or more persons. In most versions, the config.txt file contains a URL that accesses the database containing the sensor data. The URL references the file "captorsxml.aspx". As mentioned earlier, the config.txt file also contains parameters for the projected image, including scene geometry, colors and space occupation, and lists of the .swf files for persons and objects. Most versions of the module also include twenty-one .mp3 files, one of which is "empty". The other twenty each contain an audio recording of a female voice that states values for temperature, illumination and relative humidity and narrates a scenario written by Alain Robbe-Grillet. There is a French- and English-language version of each scenario
