Museum, library, institute academy offices and auditorium for J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Srinagar, India (circa 1970s)
circa 1970s
Project
Materials in this project series have been kept in their original order.
This project series documents a museum, library, offices and auditorium for the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in Srinagar, India sometime during the 1970s. The project spurred from the success of the theatre in Jammu, also contracted by the J&K Academy (see project series AP206.S1.1969.PR01 in this fonds). It consisted of a round theatre building, with a round stage and a capacity of 766 patrons. A smaller auditorium in this building had a capacity of 108 patrons. Located next to the Jhelum River, the site plan also integrated a building for a library and offices and one for a museum and art gallery. Different schemes were investigated at this site, but the project was never realized.
The project is recorded through site and floor plan scheme drawings dating from around the 1970s.
